Alex Hernandez, originally from Concepción, Chile, brings a rich and diverse musical background to Mermi Music Academy. His journey began at the Chilean-Arabic School, where he actively participated in various school music projects. During his university years, Alex dedicated his free time to studying jazz drumming and exploring the world music genre with the Alminar Ensemble, a group that performed music from Europe and the Middle East.
In 2015, Alex pursued studies in Jazz Interpretation at the Superior School of Jazz for six months. Concurrently, he delved into Indian classical music, focusing on mastering the Indian Tabla. This diverse training has equipped Alex with a broad musical palette and a deep appreciation for different musical traditions.
Throughout his career, Alex has been involved in various projects across multiple genres, including flamenco, jazz, and rock. His most notable work includes playing with the progressive rock band Inilia, with whom he recorded two albums. One of these albums was honored with a Ceres Award for Best Album of Pop Music 2018-2019 in the Concepción province. Alex also distinguished himself as a drummer in the Balkan music band La Tromba, contributing to their album recording.
Now residing in Vancouver, Canada, Alex continues to thrive as a musician. He collaborates with Lussilia, a Venezuelan Canadian singer, blending pop, traditional Venezuelan music, flamenco, and Latin rhythms. Additionally, Alex is a member of The Hipponauts jazz quartet and participates in the VSO Jazz Combos program, further honing his jazz skills.
At Mermi Music Academy, Alex’s diverse experience and passion for music shine through his teaching. His comprehensive approach, which spans various genres and cultures, offers students a unique and enriching learning experience.
